Scolton Manor Visitors Centre
Client: Dyfed County Council
Project Value: £300, 000
The brief was to build a single story, octagonal building
made out of natural and local materials, in the heart of Pembrokeshire's
parkland. It was to become a unique and groundbreaking project
in the use of its environmentally friendly and energy saving systems.
Griffiths hand picked from their workforce a team of
highly skilled and experienced tradesmen, with specialist understanding
of working with natural materials, particularly in the construction
of the slate and glass roof system, which used green oak pole panels
as the support structure. The drainage, plumbing and sewage systems
were integrated into a self sufficient system, which is one of the first
of its kind in Europe.
The Centre's unique environmental features attract visitors
from all over Europe and it has won many prestigious awards for innovative
design and quality workmanship, culminating in an award from the Prince
of Wales Committee for architecture.
MOT Testing Centre, Haverfordwest
Client: Associated Tyre Services (ATS)
Project Value: £75, 000
ATS, the nation-wide chain of car servicing garages, recently
extended its service to include MOT Testing centres. Griffiths
was asked to build an MOT centre, at the Haverfordwest branch, according
to the Company's national design specifications.
It was local knowledge of the site area which helped
Griffiths win the bid. A specialist team was pulled together to
address the complex engineering requirements stipulated by ATS and meet
the project demands on schedule.
This project is the cornerstone of a strong continuing
relationship with ATS.
Lloyds Bank, Carmarthen
Client: Lloyds Bank Plc
Project Value: £350, 000
Griffiths was asked to refurbish a listed building, with strict
design and phasing guidelines provided by Lloyds. Naturally, minimum
disruption to customers and staff was a priority.
Refurbishing listed buildings demands detailed understanding
of the restrictions involved, especially when the building must remain
in constant use during construction. With Griffiths' knowledge
and experience in this field, the management team immediately recognised
the Bank's phasing plans were inappropriate and submitted revised plans.
As a result, the project team completed the work on
programme, within budget and kept the Bank fully functional during Christmas,
the Bank's busiest time of the year.
Trevaughan Lodge, Whitland
Client: Dunbar Bank Plc
Project: Value: £400, 000
Griffiths negotiated the take-over of a partly completed bankrupt
site in Whitland, which had been lying dormant for over a year.
The management team's goal was to design and build the largest private
housing estate in Whitland.
The project presented unique design and planning challenges
and demanded that Griffiths use all its strengths of innovative construction
techniques and flexible practices to overcome the site's problems.
These centred around a water logged, clay base, caused by a previously
unsurveyed underground river.
The estate's 35 timber frame houses were successfully
completed and are the first in West Wales to meet the latest European
high thermal efficiency criteria.
Private client
Client: Private
Project Value: £125, 000
Griffiths was approached by a private client to design and
build a luxury, private house with 5 bedrooms, 3 reception rooms, a
conservatory and extensive landscaped gardens.
The client had a clear idea of size and most important
the style of house he was looking for. It was then down to Griffiths'
project manager, to pull together the expertise needed to deliver the
work. From concept, design, cost and time schedules, through to
completion, Griffiths had the knowledge and experience in-house to do
the work.
Griffiths approaches small, private ventures with the
same commitment and enthusiasm with which it deals with large commercial
organisations. A close working relationship with the client and
Grifftiths's consistently high quality work, ensured success for this
project.
South Pembrokeshire Golf Club, Pembroke
Dock
Client: South Pembrokeshire Golf Club
Project Value: £190, 000
Griffiths won the contract on competitive tender, based on
pre-agreed design specifications for a club house on a greenfield site,
servicing an 18 hole golf course.
The outstanding feature of the club house is the atrium,
which was the first Griffiths had ever built. From the original
plans, they slightly altered the design to use lighter materials and
so making it maintenance free.
Despite the severe winter and the highly exposed location,
the timescales were met, demonstrating above all else the flexibility
and commitment of the Griffiths workforce.
