Project Title: Church Road Flats & Retail Development

Project Description: 176-180 Church Road, St George, Bristol. Following a successful negotiation period ending in agreement W.B. Griffiths & Son were awarded the contract to complete the development of 15 flats and 3 retail units at 176-180 Church Road, St George, Bristol, BS5 9HX for Dunbar Bank Plc.

The work involved the completion of the design and installation of mechanical and electrical services, reinstatement of the external fabric of the property and refurbishment of the interior to include new kitchens, joinery, floor coverings and decoration. The initial phase of the scheme consisted of a complete M&E installation to the three storey new build timber frame building, consisting of 15 flats and 3 retail units. Our services installed included lighting, small power, fire alarm, intruder alarm, door entry, ventilation, heating and hot and cold water services.

With the increasing complexity in the design and of some elements of the construction and the introduction of smoke vents and fire breaks we have worked closely with the Bristol City Council Building Regulations and Standards Team to ensure compliance of the end product. Technological advances have also added additional stages to the construction process.

Because of detailed elements of the construction Contracts Director, Peter Griffiths, took personal control of the project, basing himself on site for the 32 week contract period. Although 150 miles from our headquarters in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, we have shown our commitment and stability to clients, Dunbar Bank Plc, with distance being no object, and our willingness to carry out high quality work with our own direct employed labour. The project was completed on time and within budget.
